Forty-two years ago when the South Indian Talkie Film Industry was yet to enter its teens the need for a trade body to look after the interests of the fast growing industry was keenly felt by the stalwarts in the industry. Discussions among these foresighted men culminated in the founding of an Association. The seed for this banyan tree which stands majestically in the heart of Anna Salai, Madras, today was sown on April 15, 1939. The Associaiont, “The South Indian Film Chamber of Commerce,” the first com-posite Film Trade Organisation to be formed in the country to represent the four important wings of the Film Industry viz. Studios, Producers, Distributors and Exhibitors, has since then been serving the film Industry with devotion, dedication and distinction.

The South Indian Film Chamber;of Commerce is awell-established Film Trade Organisation in the country housed in its own estate the heart of Madras city.

The Chamber also is the” only Film Trade Organisation in the, country to have run, with its own resources, an Institute for imparting training in Film Acting in Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam. Some of the students have risen to stardom within months of their graduating from the Institute. This Institute has since been transferred to the care of the Institute of Film Technology set up by the Government of Tamil Nadu.
